The Trees Have Eyes

I took a seven mile hike down the train tracks in hopes of finding anything interesting to photograph. The weather was pretty nice and I was lucky enough to come across this gem. A house, that for unnamed reasons, I didn't explore and at least 50 classic cars scattered throughout the backyard. There were some amazing cars out there, but my batteries died shortly after my arrival. Walking around here, I couldn't help but be reminded of the desert victims car bone yard scene from the horror movie "The Hills Have Eyes". I'll be returning to this location in the future for more and better photos.

Glass Kitty Greenhouse

While walking home from another location, I happened upon this old set of greenhouses I've driven by countless times before. I'd always meant to check them out, but never found myself in the area and it didn't look worth it to make the trip out there for just them. Since I was in the neighborhood, I stopped by. Nothing too special, but I do love me some abandoned greenhouses. I've found there's something about them that attracts stray kittens. This is my third set of greenhouses and there's always been at least one friendly cat inside. This time a black one I dubbed glass kitty, due to it's sleeping place on a sheet of broken glass.

AMP Update

AMP's time is winding down. Abatement crews have been there for the last two weeks or so, and now there's equipment on location and half the windows on one building have been removed.

Red Rock Mini Golf

I've driven past this place for years, but never really paid it much attention. It was a min golf course, but now all that remain are the admission booth and what I'm guessing was a rocket at the end of one of the long gone course holes.

Thompson Chemical

I recently separated my shoulder, so I haven't been able to do much of anything. This afternoon, I changed that and decided to head to an old factory campus that's been in the news quite a bit recently. Another company wants to buy it and use it for chemical storage, but due to the sites grim history, nearby residents have been fighting it from the beginning. This site was originally home to the Thompson Chemicals Co. It was the site of a massive explosion and fire in January, 1964 that killed 7 and injured up to 40 more. The blast could be felt as far away as Boston(35-40 miles away). I only explored one building, which I believe to have been known as V-2 back in the Thompson days. I'll throw some links on the bottom of this post with some more historical information and photos.

The Freedom Patch Express

Cambria and I had a desire to go out shooting this morning, but it was a mere 15 degrees outside. We finally talked ourselves into going by bribing ourselves with breakfast at a local diner. We ate our over-sized meals and headed the half mile or so to a location they always seem to leave dozens of freight cars unattended. I'm a big fan of both trains and train graffiti, so I like to drop by here once in a while and see whats sitting around. Today, we found The Freedom Patch Express # 1/10. Stuffed and cold, we walked/climbed around on the lonely cars. Wasn't the most exciting train I've seen here, but it was still a good time, and made for a few semi-decent photos. Enjoy.

These last two shots were taken by Cambria with my camera. Hers decided to shit the bed right before we left the house this morning, so we were sharing one. She needs to start practicing with it anyhow, for when I upgrade and give it to her.
